Bowl Clarity

Found this article on ESPN.com yesterday. Sounds like if this actually goes through, half the fun and frustration of bowl predictions and scenarios will be relieved. I’m personally a fan as teams like BC, who rightfully deserved a decent bowl, don’t get shipped to Boise while NC State or Chapel Hill get to stay in state because they bring the hometown fans. Granted, that’s half the allure to the sponsors, along with TV publicity, but no team with a losing record in conference should go to a bowl over a team with a winning record in conference. Ga Tech, also got screwed in this manner last year. I do like the fact that a team can leap frog another for a higher bowl. Hopefully this rewards teams that are hot at the end of the season or who have played a tougher schedule, especially when considering the games vs the other division. The pecking order goes as follows (with host town):

BCS – Typically Orange in Miami, possibly other
Peach- Atlanta
Gator – Jacksonville
Champs Sports – Orlando
Music City – Nashville
Car Care – Charlotte
Emerald – San Francisco
MPC Computer – Boise

Stipulation that a team playing in the conference championship game can’t fall below the Music City Bowl.
Conference has a shot at a second BCS bowl as well, especially with the addition of the 5th BCS game.

Broken Gnome Adds: The powers that be are also exploring the possibility of adding a second ACC bowl in Atlanta, hopefully replacing the Boise Bowl. I see this as good news for everyone but the blue-turf Boiseites. Atlanta does a great job with the Peach, err, Chick-fil-a Bowl, weather is removed as a factor, and the crowd size will benefit from being much closer to the fan bases. The suggestion is to bring in a Big 10 team. Even better.

Bye bye Boise.

EDSBS is also excited about the possibility. They’ve added some suggestions for sponsorships and whatnot.
