Weekend Update:

Padgett wins national title

Remember when Jacoby Ford posted the fasted 60m dash time in the world this year? Well he couldn’t back it up. Jacoby, who recorded a 6.52 second time at the ACC Championships, was bested at the national competition by Travis Padgett who finished the race in 6.56 seconds. Jacoby finished third in the race with a time of 6.6.

Overall the men’s team finished 15th.

Fastest man in the world

“Jacoby Ford posted a record-setting performance in the 60-meter dash. He set an ACC standard with a time of 6.53 seconds, which is this year’s top time in the world.”

The ACC Track & Field Championships are highlighting some of Clemson football’s best. The Championships are being held at Clemson’s Rock Norman Complex, and everyone in town wants to watch the 60-meter dash.

And here’s why:

Travis Padgett, the Clemson record-holder in the 100 outdoors, was second in the event a year ago to FSU’s Greg Bolden, and the Tigers’ Corey Brown was third.

Freshmen Jacoby Ford, who’s already left his imprint on Clemson athletics as a football player, has one of the three fastest times in the nation this year in the 60. His 6.60 won the Tyson Invitational at the University of Arkansas and automatically qualified him for the NCAA nationals. It is the second fastest time by a collegian this season, trailing only Demi Omole of the University of Wisconsin by five-hundredths of a second.

Padgett, fifth in a special race against professionals at the Tyson Invitational, has a personal best 6.68 this season, Brown has hit 6.78. And football running back C.J. Spiller, whom Clemson speed coach Charles Foster says is the strongest of his sprinters, has a 6.85, fast enough for sixth place at last year’s meet.

Jacoby was also recently named ACC Track & Field Performer of the Week.

That? Yeah. That is fast.

The State:

Travis Padgett broke the Clemson school record and posted the second-fastest time in the country (10.06) in the 100 meters to lead the Tigers men’s track and field team on day one at the NCAA East Regionals.

Great googely moogely!
