Random News and Updates
A fire at Village Green Townhomes in Clemson (behind the KFC off 123 if I remember correctly) has left 32 students homeless. This marks the second fire in three years at off campus apartments that has caused major damage and displacement. Our thoughts and support go out to these students. Having lost the University Ridge upon which this gnome took residence two years prior to it’s flaming demise on top of Johnstone Hall’s demolition (frosh residence) during senior year, it is frustrating to see a former place of housing fall. It must be exponentially harder when it is the current place of residence. Fortunately, according to reports , none of the students were injured and most have friends to stay with or have already found new places to live.
In other news that other team in the state, USuCk, continues to roll in the NIT beating a Cincy team that many thought deserved an invite to the dance. It bodes well for the state at least. Seems as though the cocks are finally rising to the occasion. Too little too late fellas, it happens I guess. For some reason the difference between 66 and 88, or whatever, doesn’t seem that much. Especially considering they have to finish out the tourney with W’s to get to 66 and we took the head to head in dominating fashion.
Gnome news and updates should be quiet over the next couple days. A special Sporting Gnomes Conference is being held in the friendly confines of Charleston. Expect quite a flurry upon the return to the airwaves as everything from the current Baseball team to spring Football will be handled while the golf swings are tweaked and tailgating warm ups are commenced. Hey, spring practice isn’t just for the team folks. More modifications to the site’s appearance may even occur, who knows.
Until then, this is Bowman bidding you a fair weekend and signing off.
Some say it’s too early
But I am too anxious for football!! I took last years schedule and modified it for the upcoming season. Yes, it is 6 months early but I have a fever….and the only prescription is more Tiger Football!! If you can’t wait any longer for your desktop to don the 2006 season head on over to the Sporting Gnome Gallery and get you some!
As with last year , I will keep the schedule updated with wins, losses, and records. It is set for a 1024×768 screen, if more of you have a larger desktop and want a larger size please let us know!
I wish to invoke my 5th amendment rights…
For the second time in a few years, a collection of 19 garden gnomes has been discovered, set up in football positions…
Sure I’m eager for football season to start, but going to Australia to try to play by their rules is a bit much.
Or is it?
(It is also worth mentioning that in Australian Rules Football, 18 men are allowed on the field at any time for each team. (I wonder if any of their large fan groups are referred to as the “19th Man”?))
Ready to be mopped, the Tigers have been swept
A few weeks ago the baseball team was ranked #1. This weekend they lost three straight to the goddamned wahoos. It’s funny how you will lose 3 straight when you make errors, pitch poorly, and don’t get any hits.
This makes me sick.
That is all.
He says he’s not dead yet
With spring football practice well underway, and visions of Guinness and green beer dancing through your heads, it may interest you to note that Clemson’s basketball season isn’t over yet.
No sir. After jumping out to an early lead last night, they whooped up on Louisiana Tech 69-53. This is a good thing.
Akin had his 4th straight double-double — talk about a guy who has really elevated his play this season.
En route to the victory, the Tigers managed to hit 20 of 25 from the charity stripe, including 15 in a row at one point. Also the team out-rebounded La Tech, who was 11th in the country in that category.
The next game will be on March 20th against the winner of tomorrow night’s Louisville/Delaware St. matchup.
Spring Training Insider
I don’t know if anyone checks out scout.com but in the CUFootball board they have an insider that is pretty good at reporting the training results. She must be Dustin Fry’s mom as she favors the centers alot. Anyways, HERE is Mondays report and HERE is Tuesdays report. You may want a towel as you will be drooling for the season to start after reading up on the teams progress and how the #2’s don’t miss a beat when they line up. Oh yeah, it’s gonna get ugly real quick ACC!!
Cough, Hack, CHOKE
No big surprise. 12 point lead with 12 minutes left. Less than 20 secondes left, Miami on the line, with a three point lead. We have the ball with Akinbala on the line after missing a three. I think we know how this one will end. Oh well, 18 wins is a step up and overall competitiveness from the program has been increased. Maybe some inroads to a positive tourney experience can be made in the NIT.
