Counting to 10

Let’s just say that I am displeased, but not entirely surprised, by the first half of the game.

But instead of unleashing a real-time rant about the performance, I’m going to wait until later, possibly until the game is over, possibly until I have counted to 10, or possibly until I have consumed more alcohol than is reasonable or safe.

Congratulations, I left in the first quarter and drove home. You can ask Bowman. I am sick of this special teams crap! Thank God AGAIN for the defense

Remember the new coach we added in the spring? The running backs coach who was also a special teams coach?

With Andre Powell we have seen no improvement in special teams and our stud (steer?) running backs ran for 12 yards on 12 carries today.

it was a mind numbing game. I really loved the time out before the KO that was returned for 100 yards. That was awesome.
Let’s see. Our “talent gap” is shrinking, according to Bowden.
Our “facilities gap” is shrinking, according to Bowden.
We are just one or two plays away from winning, according to Bowden.

Seems to me that the reality is that our OLine is horrible. Our backs are running poorly. Our WRs can’t catch. Our special teams is worse than terrible. Rather than make any adjustments, the coaches remain stubborn and dare the other team to keep beating us.
Can we all agree that we are tired of making other teams look like National Champions?
Just bad. Just very very bad.

I think is time to face facts we have a poor coaching staff, not an average staff a poor staff. I think that when you lose a game a week ago because of special teams and then you lose it the same way the next week you have to think WTF time to address special teams. It is time to bring in a coaching staff to carry us to the next level. Sure Bowden’s staff recruits but so did Ron Zook’s. What happened when they brought in Urban Myer they won the national championship. I am not saying we could have that kind of turn around but who knows maybe. Next question is who is out there to bring in? I don’t know but it better happened quickly or suck carolina will have our number for years to come. On to a brighter note the defense is pretty good considering what kind of holes it is put in.

I think the whole game can be summed up in one play and one point … the play would be Ford getting plastered. One the whole it looks like Harper is stuck in low speed and I’m starting to think the dropped passes are more the late, slow delivery by Harper as much as receivers who can’t hang on to things.

The point, how long do the coaches keep calling the same plays that don’t work before they change. The whole game on ESPN they kept talking about how VT just stacked the line to stop Davis and CJ and let Harper do whatever … knowing whatever would not be enought (just like last year). Way too late in the game they started do ing something different and it started to work … but by then the whole was way too big.

I may not know the right answer but I sure know the wrong answer when I see it. If the actions don’t change the results won’t either.

Did you see the look on Bowden’s face during the game. Looked like he knew he was going to get whipped when he got home. Losses don’t bother me as much as sheer ineptitude shown in the losses.

We saw Rashaad Jackson pull the D together and fire them up as if they weren’t doing their job. Even if the O did the same, sometimes, doing that in the public view eases the fans minds a little. From our standpoint, all the offensive players just sat around and moped.

I liken this Tigers team to Penn State a few years ago, except that the Lions had absolutely no talent on offense. Even if we hit 10 wins this season by winning out (we just might get close, but I don’t think it’s possible), I think it’s time to start thinking about what other coaches are available/interested in this job.

Over the years, this team just has not been prepared mentally to do the job over an entire season. Couple that with unimaginative coaches and we have an underperforming team, not entirely the players fault. Nothing short of the ACC Championship game can save Bowden in my eyes now.

WOuld that have the “this guy does not have a clue” look or the “this isn’t what I signed up for look” … or maybe the “I wish I could crawl under a rock and hide” look???

During the game, I called it the “I wonder how much a lake house, 2 jet ski’s, and a boat will get me” look.

I am sick and tired of reading his nonchallant excuses and references to better coaches after a loss. What makes this worse is that USuCk is ranked 7. Yes, 7th place. That’s called coaching. I’m glad I don’t live is SC right now. I can only imagine the jeers you guys are getting daily from SC fans.

Here’s a parallel I noticed with my soccer team. Circa December last year, Bayern Munich was down 2-0 at half time to a lowly club, sorta like LSU losing to say Temple.

In his half time talk the coach mentioned that the team needed to change it’s tactics, to which a player replied, “tactics? What tactics? You never told us what to do in the first place!” The coach got fired in February - midseason.

Later on, that player criticized the personnel decisions made by the club. He said the club needed (and forgive my language) “Arseholes”. Someone to instill fear into the heart pf his teammates and opponents simply at sight. Not a passive-aggressive feller, but someone truly smart and psychotic. Someone capable of making the players perform well beyond their capacity without alienating them. Then the No. 2 should be calm and thoughtful, sorta like a good cop bad cop situation.

Since we can’t just buy/trade for such players, I think it’s the coaching staff’s job to instill that fear, and it starts with the head coach. Hopefully I haven’t mentioned this sentiment and story before…
