When Willy Korn finally entered the game against LoMo the crowd that remained in Death Valley had to go change their pants. The kid got a standing ovation for stepping on the field! Yes, Willy ran the field well on his first run with Clemson and yes he looks very poised and impressive for a freshman but here’s some news for ya:
Cullen Harper broke a TD passing record for Clemson by passing for 5 TD’s in one game.
I understand that Korn is the prodigy Clemson Dali Lama Golden Child that was born from the womb of Lake Hartwell and preened to be The Clemson QB in the corner of the upstate but seriously, why does the Clemson crowd disrespect the QB that is doing what he is supposed to be doing in the #1 spot? No INT’s, breaking records and managing the offense as well as I remember Charlie running the show back in the day so far.
Back Cullen and thank God that we have such superior talent in the 1 and 2 positions for the next 2 years.
While Korn has had a lot of hype I’m thinking two things …
1) During the spring/summer selection process it seemed Harper got most all the first team reps and Korn the second. If things had been reversed would Korn be the starter?
2) Maybe coack learned from last year you need a plan B. Proctor lead the team to 7-1 and then went to lunch. Maybe with a solid backup a QB meltdown isn’t such a mess.
Thinking …
To the first point: I know that Bowden seems to have a tendency to favor his seniors but I have to hope that after last years meltdown at the position that he would make sure that he had the best talent possible in there at all times. At the same time, maybe he is keeping Korn on low reps to “season” him into the college experience.
Secondly: I agree and hope that Tommy did learn his lesson from last year and made sure that his second got the reps in so that there would not be the same possibility of a meltdown later in the season.
Lots of hope in that response…..if only some of it was true.
Harper had some freakish stats yesterday, as did Korn in limited play. What you guys really need is a guy like De’Cody Fagg to drop passes for you.
Bill K. his name is Rendrick Taylor, but he forgot the he isn’t supposed to catch a ball that hits him on the numbers. We’ll see how long he lasts.
As for Harper, I’ll keep him and let Korn get a little stronger and more experienced for next year’s start.
