NIT - Ole Miss @ Clemson preview
Next up for Clemson is #4 seeded Ole Miss, who claimed a first-round, 14-point victory over Appalachian State. For what it’s worth, Clemson beat App. State 79-49 nearly 4 months ago back in mid-November. There are 3 other common opponents between the two teams, thanks primarily to Clemson playing 3 SEC teams. Clemson beat Miss State by 3 at home, USCe by 19 in Columbia, and Georgia by 15 at home. Ole Miss, on the other hand, lost by 10 at Miss State but won by 12 at home, lost by 13 in Columbia, and won by 18 at home against Georgia.
My favorite computer model favors Clemson by about 8 points. Las Vegas, on the other hand, only gives Clemson about 5.5.
I agree with the odds makers that 8 points is way too much for Clemson. The computer model is ranking Clemson based on the whole season and there is little reason to really factor in all those wins from long ago. I’ll actually go further than the betters and odds makers and take Ole Miss and the points in this game.
The game is set for Monday at Littlejohn Coliseum at 7PM. If you can’t make it town, you can watch from the comfort of your living room or favorite sports bar on ESPN. Or if your stuck without TV, I guess you’ll have to live with the gametracker.
The winner of tonight’s game will play again Wednesday against either Syracuse or San Diego State.
EXTRA: The Independent Mail covers Trevor Booker’s late-season breakthrough. In addition to working on technique, it seems Booker’s been bulking up, having increased his weight from about 212 to 230 lbs.
