Smoke and Mirrors

Let’s face it. Clemson versus the Chippewas is a difficult game to get up for. Don’t let the score fool you, smoke and mirrors. True, the score is impressive. I have never witnessed such a high run up in Death Valley until now. In fact, most of you reading this never have. Not since 1981 against Wake Forest (82-24) have this many points been thrown up on the board. But before the Clemson crazies out there start talking about how we won a national championship that year so we must be back on track, not so fast. Central Michigan is four spots from last place in total defense in Div-1 football. Going into the game they were allowing an average of 39pts per game. Their offense is 41st, averaging 31pts per game, but the Clemson Defense is not a real problem this year. Suddenly, looking at this team, which comes from the conference which produces Akron, Temple, Buffalo and Kent State, doesn’t look so good. If the Tigers would have scored fewer than 50 it could have been thought of as a disaster. Even so, a win is a win and I’ll take it. Don’t be fooled though, nothing has been proven from this past Saturday. ESPN and our friends over at College Football Final summed it up very well. Yep, I was really impressed by how they explained how important this win was for the Clemson mental machine, how they explained the critical nature of this win for Clemson to continue moving forward and show they are back. Yep, of all the games they cover on Sunday morning, NOTHING was said about our game, not a score was shown. This game was even televised on ESPNU and an ESPN weekly wrap up show said nothing. Looking from outside the Clemson World in, this is exactly how it should have been. Don’t be fooled by this game, it means nothing in terms of righting the ship. The only benefit to this game is the playing practice the team can get before it heads up to College Park. Next Saturday is a real test.

Clemson should have won the game in a big way and did. The team was given a lot of opportunities and it took advantage of them. Fortunately the good results through 2 quarters shut up the people around me.

Otherwise I have to say that we shouldn’t judge a team by the slackers in their conference.

I also have to say that it does mean something in terms of righting the ship. Going out and doing what you are supposed to do is… exactly how you right the ship.

It’s hard for me to get excited about this win, even though it’s the first time in 26 years we’ve scored this much. We just picked the right team to do it against. I think we need to beat Maryland to show we are back on the right track.

Agreed, but not one of these nail-biters that come down to the last 3 minutes of the game. We salt away the fat man and company in College Park by the end of the 3rd and cruise from there, I will consider us “back on track,” but still nothing spectacular.

We can beat Maryland, we should beat Maryland - no excuses allowed whatsoever.

We raid The Fridge and come back with a pound of flesh. That should be the aim. Maybe some beer as well…

Sorry, I disagree. We can beat Maryland, and we might. But they have home field advantage and have beaten better teams than us. If we win, it will be by single digits.

I see this being the case though I would like to see my ending. Thanks, you realistic ass.

Sorry,

I’ve just accepted that we’re an 8-4 team this season . . . I’d love to be proved wrong. We lose to MD, beat Duke, beat Wake, Lose to BC, beat SC,

That’s our season. Oh, I think we’ll probably win our bowl game, though. Eventually, our guys will get tired of everyone saying their a bunch of fluttering Jims.

Same story every year, talent wise we trump them. But they have a good chance at out coaching us. I just want to win, I don’t care how.

By the way, is Manbearpig gonna be back for this game?

Taylor is questionable, but he at least was back at practice on Wednesday.

Speaking of Manbearpig, did anyone see South Park last night?
